Question
"Teams on defense will use a total of ten players in the field, including the catcher and four outfielders. The Outfielders must play REGULAR POSITIONS and no closer than 10 FEET behind the normal running base path.
1) 10 feet from the bag or 10 feet from 3 feet either side of the bag.
2) Regular Postions (Can one player play infront of another) IE TWO CENTER FIelders stacked.
Answer
Sean,
1) I'd say the 10 feet is in the judgement of the umpire. I highly doubt they'll be measuring the distance from the baseline to where the outfielder is stationed. Unless the field is marked (which some leagues do) it is in the umpire's judgement. So I suppose a player could cheat a little bit one way or the other.
2) Stacking the outfielders. I guess you could, but you would have much better field coverage by placing the outfielders an equal distance apart. I'd concentrate on teaching the fielders to catch instead of trying to 'hide' one fielder behind another.
