ASA slowpitch
Question
What is call for hit ball that hits umpire in front of fielder? behind fielder?
What is call if thrown ball hits umpire? Thanks
Answer
Jan,
It has been a while since I have found myself in a slow pitch game, but I am sure the rule is the same for both.
If the ball hits an umpire prior to passing a fielder (other than the pitcher) then the ball is dead and all runners advance one base without liability to be put out. If they are behind the fielders (which I wouldn't really understand), then the ball is live and in play.
As for a thrown ball, the ball is live and in play.
Should one get hit with a thrown ball, next time aim at their head.
