Substitutions in Little League All Stars
Question
Player A starts the game, and in the 3rd inning, player B comes in to substitute Player A, he plays the inning and gets his at bat. Can you then Substitute player A back in for Player B in the next inning? We were advised at our All Star Game yesterday that if you substitute a player, the player you remove, is not allowed back in for the rest of the game, I find that hard to believe, and I could not find it in the rule book. Thanks for any advise you can give.
Answer
Sarah,
A starter can reenter the game, but only in the position they occupied previously. However, a substitute cannot reenter a game.
So, for example:
Player A starts the game. Player B substitutes for Player A in the 3rd inning. Player B completes mandatory play and in the 5th inning, Player A reenter for Player B. This is legal. However, Player B is done for the game, and cannot be reentered for any other player.
I hope this has helped.
