rain delay
Question
QUESTION: The home team is wining in the seventh inning but losing in the sixth inning and has no time to complete the seventh inning because the game is called due to rain, does the team leading the game in the sixth inning wins the game?
ANSWER: Lorna,
You go back to the last full complete inning, so the home team would lose the game in the situation you describe.
Hope this helps!

QUESTION: That's what I thought...yet... on Tuesday, June 30th, the Marlins, who were losing on the sixth inning against the Nationals, took the lead on the seventh inning. They (The Marlins) could not finish the seventh inning (even though it was the bottom of the seventh...two outs and the last pitch was on a two two count...but they did not finish the inning... and yet, the Marlins got the "W". -they did not go back to the full complete inning which was the sixth inning and the Nats were winning..!!!
Answer
Lorna,
I misread your question. As long as the home team is winning in either the middle or bottom of the inning, the inning doesn't have to be completed. So, if the home team is ahead 4 to 2 going into the fifth, all they have to do is retire the visitors and the game is considered complete (after 4.5 innings have been played).
This is treated just like the situation where the home team doesn't have to be retired in the bottom of the ninth when they have or take the lead. So, bottom of ninth, tie game, Pujols hits a home run and the Cardinals win - they don't have to keep playing until they have three outs.
Sorry about the misunderstanding!
