outfield play
Question
there was a play a while ago where a batter hit a deep fly ball to the wall. the outfielder jumped into the wall at the same time the ball hit the top. and the ball just stayed there. it didn't fall to either side of the fence. what is the ruling on the field?
Answer
Rob,
Depends on the ground rules of the field, but typically in the major leagues this would be a home run. The top of the wall is generally considered out of the park.
There is no specific major league rule on this - so it is ground rules of the home ballpark.
Hope this helps!
