Catchers throws
Question
Dear Willie,
My 15 year old catcher, Jake, has, within the last two weeks, struggled with his throws back to the mound. He has gone from making snap, hard throws, to lollypop throws that bounce ten feet before the mound. Willie, I have seen this happen with pros, and it's like watching a train wreck, but when it's your own kid, you feel so helpless.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Don
Answer
First I would try to get in his head.Find out why he thinks he started to do it.What fear does he have. Then I would have him begin to work on throwing the ball to the pitchers mound with his eyes closed. This may help him visualize the throw back and give him the confidence that if he can throw it back to the pitchers mound with his eyes closedthen with them open it will be easy.
