scoring an RBI
Question
Hi Sean,
With runners on 2nd and 3rd and one out, batter hits a ground ball to the 2nd baseman and he boots it, runner on third scores, batter reaches firstbase safely, runner on seconds holds. Is this an RBI for the batter?
Thanks Sean.

Answer
Bill,
It would be an RBI if the error was on the ground ball itself and the fielder was not making an attempt at a play at home.
It would NOT be an RBI if the runner was not attempting to score until after the ground ball was missed by the fielder. This would happen with the infield in and the runner freezing until the fielder misses the ball. It is also not an RBI if the fielder was to make a wild throw to the plate.
So in your case if the runner had started to run towards home on contact, the play would result in an RBI.
