slide at home

Question
Tonight my grandson was on 3rd ball was hit toward 1st base and he broke for home the first baseman muffed it and the kid was safe so he threw home. When the catcher caught it my grandson was about 2 steps from the plate and was called out for not sliding. It was a clean play and he was otherwise safe. could you quote a rule # and paragraph for me tnks.

Answer
Frank,

There is no 'must slide' rule.  However, if the catcher is blocking the plate with the ball in his possession, then the runner must slide or attempt to avoid.  If he does neither, then he can be called out.

Little League Rule 7.08 (a)(3).

I hope this has helped.
