T-Ball Batting
Question
My son just started playing t-ball and now coaches are pitching without the tee. Question: My son is almost six, but coordinated and tall for his age: 48 inches and 56 pounds-we initially bought a bat that is 26 inches/14 oz. and then got a bat for a gift that is 28 in./15 oz. Do we use both bats and interchange them or should we pick one and stick with that one bat? Thank you.
Answer
hi abby
thanks for the question.
at this age i would let him use whatever bat he wants. he will probably use both bats going back and forth.
however as he gets older he should be swinging a bat that he has
good bats speed
good leverage (longest bat he can swing)
good density/mass (thick bat)
too often, we think that bat speed is the only area of concern. but all 3 of the above fit into the equation.
as a side note, i would not buy the top of the line bats. as he grows he will be needing different bats. until he gets to 13 or 14 i don't see any need to buy a new bat for a couple of hundred dollars. buy the used kind that he can use and then take it back and resell.
hope this helps.
