substitution strategy
Question
This is my first year coaching 9-10 little league softball tournament play. My question is if you have any suggestions on how to substitute players in the game so each player plays 3 consecutive outs and bats at least once. I have 13 players on the field.
Answer
Hey David,
I am assuming that you mean 3 consecutive innings. (not outs)
I need to know a little more of the tournament and playing rules for your league.
But as I see it, you only need to sub 4 players to get them all in, so keep your 3,4, and 5 hitters, along with your lead-off hitter (your better players), in the same spots and in the game. Try to rotate the others the best you can, not always subbing the same guy regularly. Let some players play 5 innings instead of always playing the same kids 3 innings. Your parents will appreciate that. Weaker players should be at 2nd and the corner outfield positions. If there is NO stealing, then a mediocre player could possibly catch.
Good Luck.
