All-Star Substitutions
Question
I tried put in a substitute (in the batting order) for my first baseman, move my catcher to first base, and move the subsitute to catcher. My original first baseman had meet minimum play requirements as well as my original catcher. The umpire told me I could not do this and I was forced to sub catcher for catcher. I did not want my original catcher to come out of the game or lose his position in the batting order. I do not understand why I can't sub in a player for another in the batting order and then move players between defensive positions. I thought the sub was tied to another player in the batting order, not both batting order and defensive position.
Answer
Jerry,
Did the substitute pitch in the game at anytime? Players are not tied to defensive positions, but remember there are new regulations on who can pitch and who can catch. I would recommend that if this happens again you protest based on a violation of rules interpretation.
