Scoring on the 3rd out
Question
You have a runner on 3rd base and the batter hits a ball between 3rd base and the shortstop. The runner on 3rd heads home before the ball is hit. The shortstop goes after the ball, fields it, but bobbles it and doesn't make a clean pick and he makes the throw to 1st base and gets the out, but not before the runner on 3rd had crossed the plate. My question is, doe the run count? If not, why? and if it does why? I believe it does count
Answer
hi john
thanks for the question!
since the runner started the play at 3b at the time of the pitch, and the 3rd out was recorded as a force out at first base, the run does not count. the location of the runner at the time of the pitch is important.
hope this helps.
