Baseball Situation

Question
If a batter hits a ball to the infield, and the infielder bobbles the ball several times... the runner gets to first before the infielder throws the ball... where do you place the runner?

usually the runner would be awarded 2 bases from where he was when the play started. batter hits ball to ss and he overthrows 1b and goes out of play, batter gets 2b.

however in this play, the batter was already at 1b. the ball leaves fielder's hand, the runner would be placed at 3b. the fielder should never had made the throw so late.
