Quadruple steal
Question
Is it possible, at all, that a quadruple steal could be pulled off?
Answer
Alex,
It is theoretically possible. For example:
Runners on first and second go for a double steal. Catcher throws to second to try and catch that runner. On the throw, the runner heading to third rounds the bag and heads home. The throw on the way to second is either cut off or not in time and they return the throw to home. The runner heading to second then turns and goes to third. The throw home is not in time and you've got four stolen bases on one play!
It seems that back in my memory, the St. Louis Cardinals pulled this play off sometime in the mid 80s with Vince Coleman and Willie McGee, but I'm not sure about that.
Hope this helps!
