going back into the draft
Question
Hi, our son is 11 yrs of age. We have had some coaching problems with our coach of the last 2 years. Last year he was drafted on him team to the majors. We love this person as a person but not as a fundamental coach for a child that eat lives breathes baseball. I son needs to be progressing and with this coach he is not. We have played fall ball on another team and our son has learned more in this 2 month process then he has in the 2 years. We are not about winning but about learning all you can while your playing and making sure rules go for everyone even our own son. Can you give me a reason why our son shouldn't be aloud to go back into the draft before he spends the next 2 to 4 years in the majors. Is there a rule that states he is not aloud to go back into the draft? If so please point me in that direction as i am unable to find this information and i feel as if our little league organization is not helping show the rules if there truly is a rule that you cant. We don't want to hurt the coaches feelings its not personal it is learning and we want that for our child.?
Answer
Lisa: Thank you for your question.
On page 34 of the LL rule book, section V- Selection of Players.
The selection of players for the various teams within the league shall be in compliance with the LL Draft Selection System as detailed in the Operating Manual.
When a league decides to substitute a selection system for the one advocated by LL Baseball, a complete description of such substituted system MUST BE PRESENTED in writing FOR APPROVAL when applying for a charter.
I only have a LL Rules Book, your league officers should have an Operating Manual that you could look at, or if they have a different system, they should have a copy of that you could look at.
I would imagine there is some rule about not re-entering the draft. If everyone could do that, there would be no team or league stability, every year would bring a redraft of every player in the league.
The league officers should know the draft rules and be able to explain them to you.
I hope this provides you with a direction to head in to locate the information. You might also look online at the LL Baseball website, you may find something there also.
Yours in baseball,
Rick
