a dream
Question
Hi, I am 21 years old and interested in playing baseball. I never played in little league or in high school. ( I was too shy to try out in hs). But almost everyday i get a ball and throw it against the wall and catch it. And i also do long throws. Even though I am by myself doing that, i have fun.(I know it seems weird). I also throw from close range improving my hand/eye coordination with the ball bouncing back at me. I have good aim. I know it seems almost impossible, but do i have a chance to start playing at a good level? Eventually playing in MLB? I love sports and in high school PE i did well in everyone. I'm a good runner, and I am dedicated when i put my mind on something. I am willing to do whatever it takes to succeed. And i really want to play one day, hopefully in MLB. Another reason I have doubts is because I am 5'5 and 160 lbs. But i do like to exercise to improve my strength and speed. So I would appreciate your help on what I need to do and if I have a chance. Thanks.
Answer
Ricardo,
Your chances of playing in the MLB are not very good and I am sure you know this. However there are always exceptions. You should try to get on a competitive adult baseball league in your area. Go to this website (http://www.msblnational.com) and you can find a team in your area. This will give you a good idea of your skills against other players in your area. If you excel you can think about going to MLB tryouts. This website will give you a list of open tryout for MLB (http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/official_info/about_mlb/tryout_us.jsp). Let me know if I can help you further.
Good Luck,
