Statistical Question
Question
In calculating ERA for a high school pitcher playing in seven-inning games I am assuming that earned runs divided by innings should be multiplied by seven instead of nine. Correct?
Thank you.
Ken
Answer
Ken,
I think pretty much everyone still uses nine innings. ERA using nine is so ingrained that I don't think people would understand if someone used seven as the divisor.
Whenever they show a high school kids stats when they are drafted, they use nine inning ERA.
Hope this helps!
