QUESTION: One follow up question, what if the ball hit the batter as we was attempting a bunt?

Answer
If the pitched ball hit the batter BEFORE it hit the bat (the hands are included in this), then the ball is immediately dead. If the umpire judges the ball would have been a strike, a strike is added to the count; if not, the batter is awarded first base. All other runners return to their base occupied at the time of the pitch, unless they are forced ahead by the batter's advance to first base.
