bad sidearm throw
Question
how to get player to stop throwing sidearm.it affects him anywhere on the field
Answer
Hi Larry,
I'm not sure having a good sidearm is a bad thing. Most infielders should have a good sidearm throw and I think statistically that's the most often used throw for infielders. Now, if the player is in the outfield, that could be a problem.
The best method is practicing the basic mechanics of a good step throw...over and over...make them throw high and long. I can only think of that as an exercise. You could teach him to throw towards a target...something he can do on his own (young player?).
Step throw (overhand) is a more powerful throw but hands down, for infielders, sidearm throws are very important. Maybe he's a third baseman?
:)
Best of luck,
