What is not considered an at bat?
Question
My asst. coach and I have been disagreeing over what is not considered an at bat. Can you clarify when an at bat is not considered an at bat!
Thanks
Answer
Sean,
An at bat is not charged to the batter for the following results:
1) Batter walks
2) Batter lays down a successful sacrifice bunt
3) Batter hits a sacrifice fly driving in a runner from third.
4) Batter is hit by pitch
An at bat is charged when:
1) Player gets a hit
2) Player makes an out not covered by 2 or 3 above
3) Player reaches on an error or catcher's interference
I think that covers all the situations. Please ask again if I've left out a certain play you have been arguing about!
