first practice
Question
we less that a month to prepare for out first game, i have a pony bronco (11&12) team of various talent from great to not so great..what would be a great first practice plan to evaluate the kids and place them in an appropriate position..i also have very limited pitchers here and need to develop them quickly, any drills that you would suggest...

Hi Jeff,
Hope I am not too late.
If you do not know the kids, and they do not have established positions, I suggest the following:
Put your best athlete behind the plate.
Try all at pitcher and use the ones that can consistently put the ball where the catcher can get to it.

If I were in your shoes, I would focus on the following areas:
DEFENSE
NOT throwing the ball unnecessarily
Working the catchers and pitchers on passed balls/wild pitches to prevent runners scoring from third
Outfielders getting the ball in to ss/2b QUICKLY
Fielding bunts to third baseman/pitcher
OFFENSE
Bunting
Aggressive baserunning
Swinging three times per at bat as a goal
