Mechanics?

Question
Okay, thanks advice, I think I have the WANT down pretty much but the WORK still needs to get better. See, I can't do anything in the winter, you know why, I live in Pennsylvannia, not California. So, I've decided I'm spending too much time over the summer DREAMING I've won the World Series with the Yankees. I decided, in the start of May when I move into my new house that has a larger backyard, my old house only has a fifteen foot backyard and I can't go to the baseball field becuase my mom is scared I'll get kidnapped or something. I'm WORKING on my curveball. I have a question, what does mechanics or whatever mean? And also I'm sorry I forgot to tell you all my age size stuff. I am 12-years-old, 5'1, 75-80 pounds, and I sorta stink at just about everything at pitching but I WANT to do it.

Answer
Sanket,

If you WANT it you can get it.  Mechanics is the pitching form.  Your windup, your leg kick, your arm motion and followthrough.  I will get back to you through this site in the next few days and let you know about some books and websites to look at for proper pitching form and mechanics.

I do not want you throwing any curveballs until you can locate your fastball on the inside and outside parts of the plate and have good mechanics.  If you throw a curveball with bad form, you will hurt your elbow.

Let your Mom read these emails so she knows you are talking to someone over the internet.  And I agree with her, she shouldn't leave you at the baseball field alone because you might get kidnapped.

I understand your weather problems, but there are a lot of things you can do at home inside to improve.  I will get back to you on that.  I have been very busy at work and we are actually preparing for our initial team practice on Saturday.

I will contact you in a few days with information.

Take care

Sanket,

I have some information for you.  I recommend a book written by Nolan Ryan for you to read.  It is called something like, Nolan Ryan's Pitching Bible.  It is a great book and easy to understand.

Another great one is Pitching Master.  You can get it online as an ebook.  Ask your mom if you can check it out.  It costs like $20.  It has great photos of the pitching mechanics and is easy to read as well. Go to Yahoo.com and search pitching master.

You have to have proper mechanics to be a successful pitcher.  These books will teach you those and things you can do to work inside on your mechanics.

We started this last weekend to get ready for our spring season.  We will make our final cuts next week and start spring training next weekend.  I recommend you get these books and start reading them and working on what they say.  This will be your spring training.  Then you need to get with a coach who can watch you and refine your technique.

You should be happy now that your Yankees have Randy Johnson.  Start working on your pitching and maybe you can be there some day.

Take care and remember, your worst day at the baseball field is always better than your best day at work!!

Work hard, and HAVE FUN!!!
