Pregame JV
Question
How would you run a pregame infield & outfield for a JV team?
Answer
Depends on how much time you have. If you have enough before the game, then hit outfielders 2 fly balls each (you would hit them from out in front of the plate). That way they can see the flight of the ball coming from the home plate area. Have them throw to second base for the first fly, and then to 3rd. (You can hit another one and have them throw home if you have enough time). If you're short on time, have one of the other coaches hit fly balls at the same time you run infield.
For infield, 1st ground balls the infielder goes home. The next one they go to first (except for the 1st basemen, who goes across the diamond to 3rd). Then have them turn a double play. And the final one they'll play in, and go home, and follow it up with a throw to first (catcher dribbles the ball out to them for the throw to 1st).
Lastly, the goal here isn't to hit shots at your infielders to see if they can handle it. It should be medium speed hits -- the purpose of a pregame infield is just to get your players hand/eye coordination going and to get them warmed up.
Hope this helps,
