Major League Draft
Question
So I have become obsessed with all types of Professional Sports Drafts. One that I have observed and studied much recently is the NBA Draft. I was suprised to hear about Curtis Heroman who is a guy who declared for the draft while he has only played intramural sports. So I was wondering if one could do this in the Major League Draft. In other words, could somebody enter the Major League Draft even if he has never played college (or even high school) baseball. Not that I am getting any crazy ideas. I am just curious. Thanks.

Answer
Josh,
There is no 'declaring' for the major league baseball draft. A team can literally chose anyone they want. In fact, in years past, sometimes teams would draft someone in a very late round just as a favor or honor for someone. In fact, in one famous case, Mike Piazza was drafted by the Dodgers as a favor to Tommy Lasorda. No one expected he would go anywhere as a player.
Hope this helps!
