team standings
Question
how can a team gain 1/2 game? in the team standings.
Answer
Timothy,
Thanks for the question. This is confusing to a lot of people because in a way it just doesn't make sense. After all, noone plays a half a game.
In reality, the 1/2 game means that one team has played and the other hasn't. In other words, Team A may have played 10 games and is 9-1. Team B has played 9 games and is 8-1. In the standings, Team B is 1/2 game behind Team A, because they have played one less game.
At the end of the season, there are no 1/2 game leads or deficits because everyone has played the same amount of games.
Let us say that Team B plays game 10 and loses. They would then be 8-2 and be 1 game behind Team A.
That is how it works!
