QuestionI have a 13 year old son who just finished his 1st year pitching
from 60 ft. in Babe Ruth.
He has excellent contol, throws consistantly in the low 70's, and
was one of the few pitchers/players who didn't get a sore arm
(he does arm care excercises/tubing).
He also had a no hitter in last years first San Mateo National 11/
12 little league All Star game as well as this years 1st San Mateo
13 year old Babe Ruth All Star tournament game.
I would like to see Brandon go as far as his talent can take him
as a baseball player, but especially as a pitcher
With this background said, will weighted baseballs help Brandon
with his velocity as some pitching "gurus" claim, or is it that he
needs to just continue to mature and develope his mechanics,
which are already good for a 13 year old,but a long,long way
from being fully developed.
Regards,
Tom Bielagus
AnswerHi Tom,
Here's the deal with weighted baseballs. They do have their place in developing arm strength, but not for a 13 year old. I rarely even use the weighted balls with high schoolers as they are still developing their overall body strength as well as throwing mechanics. Hold off until your son gets older and has a solid foundation upon which to build.
