flyballs

Question
When I play the outfield and someone hits a fly ball. after I do my drop step should I run the route in which I think the ball will go and not look up till I get to that spot or should I look at the ball as I run.

Answer
Never take your eye off of the ball. You should be watching it off the bat, into the sky, and into your glove.

If you have an outfield fence to worry about, you should have a routine with the other outfielders, such as, yelling "FENCE!" to each other when you are three steps away from hitting it.  Even though you may feel as though you are about to hit the wall, you should keep your eye on the ball if you can.

With experience, you may be able to glance quickly at the fence while still keeping an eye on the ball.

Hope this helps.

Anyway, as in any sport with a ball...keep your eye on the ball.
