QuestionHi I would appreciate your help, I've coached machine pitch forever but now have been asked to coach 9-10 live arm. I know nothing of pitching. Any chance you might can help me with some bullpen sessions guidance. I really dont want to mess some kids arm up! Thanks if you can, I appreciate any help I can get. If not thanks anyways for taking my e-mail. Play ball! Al
AnswerAl,
Thanks for the question and the intelligence. I have been where you are man. Just remember to have fun and teach those kids. At the point that I am, winning has become a bigger deal, but I still am trying to teach the kids how to pitch and think.
The more your kids know, the more baseball knowledge they have, the better they will be. Even if there aren't the best athlete, they will be a great ballplayer.
I would love to send you that information. Send me your email address to
[email protected] and I will get it to you. You will want to limit your pitchers bullpens at practice to about 25-30 pitches. Concentrate on control. At the 9-10 level, if you have control and limit your walks, you win.
We played a big tournament last weekend in Waco. In 26 innings, my pitchers struck out 36 and walked 4. That is control.
I hope my information helps. Have fun, love those kids and make them remember you.
