Jon, my question concerns the wild card team. Do they play the team with the best record, even if that team is in the same division? If the season ended today would the white sox play the Tigers or the Yankees? Thanks...Rick

Thats a great question. As you already know the Wildcard goes to the team with the best record in their respective league (American and National) who is NOT the champion in their division(East, Central, or West). The wild-card winner then plays the champion from another division with the best record.

Simply put the White Sox would play the Yankees in the Divisional series. They won't play the Tigers because both teams are from the American League Central.
