the next nolan

Question
my son is 9 turns 10 may30th 5ft2in tall 91lbs has good mechanics lets body whip arm smoothly through reaches back and gets all of it. never complains of tiredness or any soreness or any weird feelings exept tightness when we first warm up at home to throw alittle. he plays on travel ball team here in alabama last fall could pitch only about 2 in per game never more than 2 games a weekend averaged 60 to 75 pitches velocity then was 46 to 50 mph consistently in the middle of that range.this spring after all winter workouts with me at home just fun stuff mind you, pushups situps hack squats against the wall ,velocity is 52 to 54 mph consistently and has pitched 4 solid innings in 2 games in one weekend still at only 70 to 75 pitches total for weekend ,sorry for all the info, my question is is this to much or does it sound ok were not the kind of family that thinks we have the next nolan or anything like that we actually live for the moment and hes having more fun with baseball than anything ever just would like a pros opinion on whats to much thanks

Answer
All this sounds great. You are obviously taking great care in watching that your son doesn't throw too much. Be careful still though because at that age kids are far from fully developed (physically or emotionally).
They need as much time off, maybe more, as they do "on". This is where playing other sports comes in to play. Basketball, football and even, dare I say, soccer, can be great for young athletes because it can develop skills not found in baseball. Agility, stamina and quick reflexes can be learned while giving the young pitchers arm a break from throwing.
I played all kind of sports until my sophomore year in high school, when I decided that Baseball was the one for me. But  I have to say that being a well-rounded athlete has given me as much opportunity as my pitching arm.
So for the time being everything sounds great, just be sure not to "burn out" his arm or his desire, by playing too much baseball. If he feels that he is playing baseball for himself and not for you, he will surely have success.
