Pitching Arm
Question
Hi,
I went outside and pitch about 50 pitches each day for 3 days in a row. I threw pretty well and not 100% my hardest. I still didn't feel any pain in my arm after the 3 pitching sessions, so i didn't ice down. My mom told me don't pitch anymore this week, you might hurt your arm. It's been about 7-8 days, I iced down 2 days ago after some pain and my shoulder is still sore like i pitched the day before. I don't know whether I should ice down again or if I should just not throw for another week. I have my first team practice tonight and am not sure what's wrong with my arm. Do you know what might be wrong or how to heal it quickly?
Thanks, Ray
Answer
I'm not sure there is anything you can do to heal it quickly. I would suggest that you try and keep a better schedule about your throwing. Don't throw off the mound three days in a row again. Depending on your schedule of games and practice try and take 3 days off a week.
Monday- light throwing w/ 35 pitches off the mound
Tuesday - off
Wednesday - long toss
Thursday light throwing to 90 ft and 20 'flat-ground' pitches. (throw to a catcher but not off the mound)
Friday - off
Saturday - light throwing and 35 pitches off the mound.
Sunday - Off
This would be my guidelines for you. You can adjust it as you see fit. be sure to rest but not for 7-8 days at a time.
