tipped strike
Question
can a runner steal a base when the batter tips the ball on a 2nd strike. The ball is barely tipped and ends up in teh catchers glove. If the runner advances does he need to return to the previous base or does the steal stand?
Answer
What you are describing is a foul tip, which means the ball is tipped directly into the catchers mit and caught. A foul tip is different from a foul ball in that the ball stays live. Since the ball is live, players may advance and therefore do not have to go back. Please excuse the delay here. Your question went to the question pool and wasn't assigned to me until this afternoon.
