board meetings
Question
Mr. McInnis- Should little league board meetings be open for parents and volunteers? I have concern on the "click' I see happening behind these closed doors. I appreciate the volunteer board members, but it seems we should have a community forming our league and not a select 5 or 6. Thank you for your input. thank you , Team Mom
Answer
Hi Arika,
these types of meetings are sometimes held 'closed' in order to perform detail planning and preps.
Most associations have regulations about meetings being opened or closed. You should make a motion at the next General meeting to specify which meetings are open or closed.
I know that sometimes more work is done in closed sessions. Some decisions are best left to board members who are acting in the best interest of the league/children.
If you feel this is not the case, you could raise the issue at the General meeting. If your local city is sponsoring the association, you could raise your concerns with them as well.
Usually, when forming a league, it is just a few individuals who have a desire to form an association. Depending on which league they join, there are set rules and by-laws. Some civic rules may also apply - in order to be recognized and sponsored by city tax payers.
I hope this helps.
