Catching w/ knee savers
Question
My grandson uses knee savers catching in the Little Leagues . 12 yo. I love the idea, but think he is not using them properly. I feel he has them to high on the back of his leg, on or slightly above the calf muscle. I think this may cause more damage by stressing the knee more. I feel they should be lower.
thanks

Answer
Papa,
Thanks for the question and the concern for your grandson. I love to see grandparents get involved and enjoy watching, cheering and helping their grandkids play and improve. I am with you. When I catch my pitchers in the bullpen, I use knee savers and I attach them to the lower 2 straps of my shinguards. This is how they are most comfortable to me. However, I have seen many catchers attach them higher as they are more comfortable to them there and makes them feel that they can sit higher and be able to move laterally more.
I don't guess that I have given you a definitive answer here, but the answer really is what does he feel is most comfortable. You may have him move them down and see how it feels, otherwise, if he likes them the way he has them, then it is not doing damage to the knee and he is OK.
Have fun!!!
