Youth Catchers equipment
Question
QUESTION: Hi Michael,
I'm not sure if I ordered the correct size equipment for my son Ray. He is 12 years old about 5 "1" and 115 pds, he's been catching for three years and I must say (not only as his dad) that he is extremely talented behind the plate. Anyway, I ordered the Intermediate Easton Natural catcher's set but he hasn't tried it on. Should the shinguards and the chest protector be a perfect fit? Does it matter if it's a little big? I guess my concern is, I don't want to buy a youth set and he grows out of it by next year.
ANSWER: Ray,
A little big is OK. You just don't want too small. Trust me, he is going to grow out of it so get used to buying gear. That is a fact of life in baseball.
Congratulations!!! A good catcher is an invaluable asset. I say this: give me a solid, strong armed catcher and a few good pitchers and I can beat anyone.

QUESTION: Thanks Mike!!
I'm pretty sure I'll be buying baseball gear for along time. I've been trying to look for baseball camps in the summer in Westchester NY (where I live)but I've been having a hard time. Do you know of a website? or any other valuable information I can use to research.
Thanks again,
Ray
Answer
Ray,
I don't know where to check in that area as I am in Texas. My best advice would be to check the college baseball website in your areas. Pretty much every college baseball program will put on some type of baseball camp in the summer for kids. You may also check with the local high school coaches. I know down here every high school has a week long instructional camp for younger kids.
