sliding into 1st

can a MLB player slide into 1st base as he is trying to run and be safe? or is it illegal to do so? i was having a discussion which turned into an argument about this. He says it is against the rules and i believe it is not against the MLB rules to slide into 1st base? your thoughts please???

It is NOT against any rule to slide into first base in the MLB or in college or in high school or in little league or in pony league or any league, except maybe beer league men's softball (but that isn't exactly a sport now is it?).

Watch a day's worth of MLB games and I would lay good odds that you will see an attempt by a batter on a bunt or slow roller to slide into first base.

Many people have the impression for some reason it is illegal, but it is NOT.  Your friend is dead wrong and owes you an apology.
