batting stance fpr thin 10 year old girl
Question
My daughter is 10. She played t-ball for 2 years, and has played softball for 4. She was a great little hitter, until the end of last year, and then she started a slump. I had a professional coach tell her ways to stand, hold the bat, not to "chicken wing" anymore, etc., and he had her hitting. THEN, three softball coaches told her all sorts of things to do, and I believe messed her up. I've been told she needs to swing from the hip, she doesn't have much power in those little arms, and so far, I've not found anyone to help me, help her. Our prof. is busy with a minor league baseball team right now!
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Answer
Hi Vickie,
its true what they say ... good batting starts with the basics. Stance, grip and swing.
Pick your pitch to hit.
Practice swinging the bat quickly and with control.
Spread your feet a little wider than your shoulder width to maintain balance.
Grip the bat within your fingers then roll the bat into your palm.
Keep the bat up and at a 45-degree angle to minimize unnecessary movement when you swing.
Keep your rear elbow close to your body for more power hits.
Practice with someone who can watch your stance and swing.
If you can, practice often at batting cages or use a wiffle ball and batting T.
Another suggestion could be a baseball camp.
There are some excellent baseball camps held all across N.America each summer. These camps are held weekdays or weekends and might be the way to go for your daughter. She would get the 1-on-1 attention she needs and it is very affordable.
Check out http://baseballcamps.com/ ABC is a good organization with excellent coaching. Well worth the time and effort. I'm sure you'll find one locally.
Best of luck,
