Back Foot
Question
Hi,
I am a righthanded batter and have a mehcanical problem. I have a basic foot work stance (not open or closed). When I hit off of tees and on soft toss and when I swing in the on-deck circle my back foot pivots. My back foot slides out instead of pivoting in games. It has significantly decreased my offensive production. I have no idea how to keep my backfoot from sliding out. Do you have any tips on this?
Thanks, Ray
Answer
Ray,
It sounds like you are getting out too much on your front foot which allows your back foot to slide. You need to work on staying behind the ball, take the butt of the bat handle to the ball, keep your hands "inside" the ball and make sure that your weight transfer is proper. That is how to turn correctly during the swing.
