Bott Ltd Supports Local Girl Izzy Hamilton RS:X Windsurfing And Kite Board Racer
Izzy talks here of the support that Bott Lt has given her over the years.
Izzy Hamilton, 20, from Bude and a professional RS:X Windsurfer in the Olympic Sailing team.
I’ve just come back from the World Championships where I finished 15th and the positioning moved me onto the Olympic Performance Team which I am really happy about!
Doing what I do means I have tons of gear that I need to take with me wherever I am training, luckily for me a few years ago, Bott who are a predominant company in Bude got in touch with me after I did a "encouraging children into sport" presentation at the school and wanted to sponsor me, by giving me something useful. Bott supply and manufacture in-vehicle storage and racking systems so the obvious choice was to give me something for all my gear and we decided on a trailer.
The trailer is a big metal box made by Oxedon with custom-made Bott racking inside, it has a huge GBR30 and Bott’s logo on the side, perfect for storing my kit and several other toys! It’s been super useful over the last few years and I couldn’t do without it now, travelling around the country to training and competitions and acting as a mini garage in Weymouth, which is where the Olympic training centre is. Most of my RS:X training is done with the whole team and usually happens in Weymouth as Cornwall is a little bit remote for the whole team to travel too!
As well as training in Weymouth I still do a lot of training in Bude. I use Fusion Fitness Gym in the town for weights and the rowing machines. In good weather I take my bike out or use the ocean for surfing or kiting! I always miss Cornwall when I’m away. It’s so peaceful and whatever conditions are there is some sort of water sport close by! My favourite time is early Summer, before the season starts, when the beaches are empty and its warm and sunny!
I love what I do. Windsurfing has one of the most diverse entry lists with competitors from all over the world. It has been through a big battle recently though, fighting kite surfing for its right to race in the games. This has only made the sport stronger though and I can’t wait for 2016!
