Scuba Diving with Operating Deep Down

Upon returning home many wounded service men and women feel disengaged from society. Many of these men and women feel their lives will be limited due to their new-found disabilities. Some believe they will no longer be able to engage in activities they love due to their injuries. However, there are programs and services out there, which offer hope for these men and women that they can and will be able to enjoy all the activities they once loved and be able to live a fulfilling life despite their disabilities.

Operation Deep Down is one such service for these wounded veterans. Operation Deep Down is a program whose goal is to help these wounded heroes reintegrate themselves back into society by allowing them to engage in activities they may have thought they would never be able to again. The Operation Deep Down program uses Scuba Diving as a therapeutic and psychological tool to help heal the wounds of disabled service men and women. The program shows them what they can do even with their disabilities. The program provides scuba training and certification to disabled veterans and their chosen able-bodied partner.

Operation Deep Down is the military Division of Cody Unser's First Step Foundation. The foundation was started to raise awareness and research funds to fight paralysis of the little known about disease called Transverse Myelitis shortly after the foundation's namesake was diagnosed with the disease and left paralyzed at the tender age of eleven. Cody was a precocious child and determined not to let her disability stop her. Cody went on to not only gain a diver's license but get her own Scuba certification as well. Cody from then on has been determined as ever to spread the word not only about the disease but let others with disabilities know they too can still enjoy activates such as scuba diving.

Thus the foundation expanded to offer other programs and Operation Deep Down was started to help those veterans with disabilities learn how to Scuba Dive. The program travels all over the country offering Scuba Diving training and certification to wounded veterans and their able-bodied diving buddy.
