Here are five of these best snorkeling spots: :

1. Clovelly Beach

If you want your whole family to experience what wonders snorkeling has to offer, then you head on to Clovelly Beach. Assured to be protected and safe condition wise, it offers an easy entry and exit from its concrete steps close to the Surf Club as well as getting in and around overhangs, reefs, weed beds and a multitude of colorful marine life. You'll be sure to see Bluey, their famous blue groper, and a school of all sorts of fishes, moray eels and octopi.

2. Oak Park

Whether you're a beginner or advanced in snorkeling or scuba diving, this Cronulla park and pool is ideal for you. Once you enter the pool's right hand side, snorkel along its arc-shaped wall and feast your eyes on the crevices and overhangs that await to be explored. You'll surely spot some interesting crayfish and if your timing is just right, you'll find yourself swimming side by side with a friendly resident groper.

3. Shelly Beach

Located in Manly, North of the Harbour, Shelly Beach is a protected marine life sanctuary. You can also take your whole family on a grand snorkeling adventure there because it's proven to be safe, with an easy entrance and exit. Scuba divers suggest entering via the boat ramp and try snorkeling along the walkway going to the fairy bower and back or snorkeling the reef to the right hand side of the beach. The area's clear waters are filled with underwater life that's a must see for any snorkeler or diver.

4. Captain Cook's Landing (Botany Bay National Park)

When the famous James Cook arrived on the shores of Botany Bay, he was probably too taken by the sight of land before him that he didn't realize what a treasure of sea creatures he had beneath his feet. Found inside the National Park, this site has rocky entry; hence, it's recommended for intermediate snorkelers. There are lot of wonderful sea species to see though, one of which is the popular Weedy Sea Dragon of Sydney.

5. Bare Island

This island was featured during the finale of the Tom Cruise movie, "Mission Impossible II." And as one of the best snorkeling spots in Sydney, it's no wonder it was chosen. Ideal for beginner and advanced snorkelers, you can make it your mission to do an exploration of what wonders it has to offer: fishes, rays, sea horses and maybe, some cute turtles.
