Cemetery Reef is just offshore of the north end of Seven Mile Beach and is a reasonable second dive site following scuba diving on the west wall It's also possible to snorkel this dive site closer to shore. You can find a variety of different fish here including, Angelfishes, Blue Tangs, Blue-headed Wrasse, Black Durgeon, Spotted Drum and a lot more. The dive site contains a mix of coral fingers and sand channels to check out and a couple of good Encrusting Octopus sponges.
Visibility on the dive site is often reduced substantially on this site as a result of the amount of debris in the water However, the dive site is compelling and when you take your time you can get a number of excellent underwater images. You can usually discover Yellow Stingrays on this dive site partially obscured in the sand. There is also an old lawn chair sitting in the sand where you can take a picture reclining on the chair.
There have been a few Nurse Sharks on this site but this is not common. The coral reef is in poor to moderate condition across a good deal of this site but you should yet find a limited number of quite nice hard and soft corals. You may also find a Green Morays or 2 hiding in the coral. Make certain you take a look at crevices in the coral. You will also discover Spiny Lobsters and additional crustaceans. There more than a few large sandy flats which run throughout this scuba diving site and can be great places to look for different kinds of rays, such as the Yellow Stingray}. I have found several juveniles on this dive site every so often.
Close up wide angle along with macro photography are probably the best to use on this site because of the quantity of particulates that are usually in the water. There is also a fairly good variety of fish and other marine animals on the dive site and you may see the elusive Spotted Drum. This is usually a dive site where you may dive as a buddy team or else you may tag along with the dive master. It can be a good variation from another of the typical second dive sites on the west side particularly if you haven't been to the site it is definitely worth at least one trip.
I definitely encourage taking this dive slowly and take the occasion to appreciate this site. Read other site evaluations on my blog and look at additional underwater artwork on my website and tag along with me on Twitter @ images2inspire.The pool is open...
