Underwater the Thai Islands have exceptional fish life, stunning soft and hard corals, an exciting underwater topography of caverns and arches and big fish highlights including huge Giant Mantas (not to be confused with smaller, more common Reef Mantas), Leopard Sharks (Zebra Sharks), Whale Sharks, Barracuda, Tuna and Trevally. Richelieu Rock, in particular, is a world hot spot for Whale Shark encounters. The HinDaeng and HinMuang seamounts are famous for their stunning red and purple soft corals as well as frequent visits from Giant Mantas and Whale Sharks. Above water the Thai islands are equally stunning with tropical jungle interiors surrounded by white sand beaches.

This is Koh Tao’s most remote bay, with almost no development here at all, the corals are abundant. Protected from the elements the conditions are calm and visibility here is usually great. I like to do shallow water skills sessions here from time to time due to it’s large sandy areas, which are perfect for practicing your first steps as a diver! All the usual suspects can be found here including an ever present 5000 fish strong school of yellow sided scads (fusilier) as well as hawkesbill turtles and bluespotted stingray.
