Finding the Ideal Samurai Sword for Sale

There are various things to consider when buying a samurai sword but the three most important aspects are: type of sword, personal budget and the balancing of those two equating to quality.

Type of Sword

There are many types of swords and the creation of these classic weapons date back to several distinct eras of Japan, however from the creation of the first sword in 900 AD to the modern weapons of today there are those that are renowned as originals.

  • Tachi – One of the first swords crafted this is a longer sword that was used many centuries ago as a tactful weapon. It's optimal use came out when it was used upon horseback, as noted by historians, and as such is a slice of Japanese history all its own.

  • Katana – When you think of a samurai sword this is often the thought weapon. Forming the creation of its own style, this sword could slash through enemies and obstacles in a single motion.

  • Tantou – This short dagger is a tactful knife, not exactly a sword in our own traditional thoughts, but it holds as much Japanese history as a katana or tachi. Often used in combination with a longer sword this is a quick blade that easily functions as a mean for self-defense.

There are many more, such as the wakizashi, nagamaki and the oudachi all with their own purpose and their own characteristics. You must look into the types offered and find the best one to suit your personal wants and desires, once you find the ideal you must then look at how much you are willing to spend or your budget.

Budget & Quality

When it comes to buying an authentic Japanese sword you have to be prepared to shell out money. This is where you really start think about how much you're willing to pay for a genuine samurai sword and what your intended purpose is for the sword.

Do you plan to use it because you've chosen to immerse yourself in the traditional way of the samurai? Do you want to learn sword fighting? Do you simply want to rest it on a table in your living room to add a bit of traditional flair?

Regardless of the reason, if you want a sword it's important to note you can get a sword one for less than a hundred but this means that it will be nothing more than a glorified paper weight. Anything remotely close to a quality blade will be nothing less of $300.

However, if authenticity is what you desire and you can have nothing less then don't expect to pay anything less than a thousand, more if you're looking for a specially crafted sword from a particular sword smith.

The reality of buying a samurai sword whether it be for actual use or because you've been inspired by anime, manga or the movies is that you'll have to dedicate real time, effort and money but in the end that may be a smll price for a little slice of Japanese culture.
