The 2014 FIFA World Cup will be a month-long soccer festival you don't want to miss! The World Cup tournament began in 1930 and this year marks the 20th FIFA World Cup with 32 teams kicking their way to win the title. The first match is on June 12th at 3pm CST with Brazil vs. Croatia.
Late last year, USA secured qualification for their 7th consecutive FIFA World Cup. They played their best tournament back in 1930 when the team placed third but have yet to win their first FIFA World Cup tournament.
All soccer matches of the World Cup will be broadcasted and available on ESPN, ESPN2, and ABC in English. Spanish versions will be available on cable networks and Univision broadcast. ABC will air the World Cup final July 13 all the way from the host country, Brazil.
Speaking of Brazil, this will be the second time it hosts the competition since the first back in 1950. No country has defeated Brazil on its home field in almost 12 years and they are the only team to have played in every World Cup tournament. Brazil is the betting favorite to win their 6th FIFA World Cup in front of their home crowd, but other teams such as Argentina, Germany, and Spain are still ones to be looking out for. Brazil is also hosting the 2016 Summer Olympic Games, some say the World Cup is a preview for its abilities to wow viewers in two years.
