The ‘Good Old Arsenal' Way!

Arsenal is one of the most popular and rich clubs in the English Premier League. The club originating from London in 1886 earned a lot of accolades and went on to become one of the most popular clubs in football history. The Gunners, as they call themselves have been the home to numerous football legends that have brought glory to the club both in England and internationally. The red and whites are presently managed by the veteran Arsene Wenger who has carved out a niche for himself in the history of the club. The Emirates stadium and the millions of fans across the world has been the witness to a number of historic games.

Arsenal is the first club from South London to qualify for competing in the first division of the English domestic season. The club has never looked back since qualifying for the first division in 1914.

Major achievements over the years

Arsenal has won a staggering twelve number of FA Cups in their entire stint since the inception of the club. They have been the Premier league champions for thirteen times – one of the best records in the history of the English first division domestic league. The club has the unique feat of completing a double three times in the 1970-71, 1997-98 and 2001-02 seasons. The club reached its pinnacle of success in the 2003-04 seasons where they remained unbeaten and clinched the title of champions in the Premier League.

Inspirational moments for the club

The 1970's Fair's Cup final has been etched with golden letters in the history of the club. It was a dramatic win after a draught of seventeen long years. The team had overcome a tough challenge in the semi-finals when they defeated an Ajax team boasting of Johan Cruyff and Rudi Krol in the line up. They went on to lose the first leg of the final to Anderlecht in Belgium but came back strongly in the final leg to win 4-3 on aggregate to gift their fans a memorable victory on home turf.

The Wenger era

The Frenchman Arsene Wenger has been associated with the club for the most number of years among all the managers who have shouldered the responsibility and he has done it in style. He brought about a revolution in the team since taking up in 1996 by winning a number of major titles. But his contributions were not at all restricted to the field. He devised a rigorous dietary plan and schedule for the players that gave rise to starts like David Seaman, Patrick Vieira, Marc Overmars, Dennis Bergkamp, Ian Wright and Thierry Henry. Henry went on to become the top scorer of the club. Although Wenger achieved enormously in England, European glory has evaded him – the closest tryst with the Champions League title came in the 2006 finals when Barcelona defeated them.
