Tampa Bay Buccaneers Fire Head Coach Lovie Smith

It has been announced by Tampa Bay Buccaneers that the Head Coach Lovie Smith has been relieved of his duties. From his own words "After careful consideration, we informed Lovie that we have decided to make a change. I want to thank Lovie for his hard work and dedication to the Buccaneers during his time here. This decision was difficult on a variety of levels. I am disappointed that we were not more successful these past few seasons, but we are committed to doing what is necessary to give our fans the winning team they deserve. As we move forward, General Manager Jason Licht will oversee the process for finding our next head coach."

This can be regarded as one of the greatest surprise in this new year 2016 of all the NFL coaching moves this week.

Just about a month ago or there about, Buccaneers fans considered Smith as a dark horse candidate for NFL Coach of the Year honors. It is widely known that Buccaneers fell apart over the final month, in which he loose four straight to become the first team with five consecutive last-place finishes in the NFC South.

While speaking to several NFL sources, there is an indication that smith was sacked when he refused to make replacement to his coaching staff.

The former Buccaneers general manager, Mark Domenik, announced that his expectation is that Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter to be named head coach in just a week. This is a welcome development since Koetter did a fantastic job in developing Winston as a rookie, and other teams with head-coaching opportunities were starting to show interest.

The Buccaneers can be termed as an intriguing team. The team have some good players such as David, defensive tackle Gerald McCoy and receiver Mike Evans, and there are other sound young players other place on the roster. The Buccaneers have the fourth-most cap room going into the offseason, about $52 million based on a projected $150 million cap according to OverTheCap.com.

Smith had the feeling that he will get an opportunity of developing player and also building a winner but the Buccaneers surprised everyone on and decided to move in a different direction.

At the beginning of this week, Smith had rekindle his belief that the team is heading towards the right direction.

"Our football team isn't a finished product yet, but I think it's safe to say that we're in pretty good shape going forward with Winston leading us, on and off the field," he said.

But the Buccaneers will definitely move froward without Smith, the team's third coach since Jon Gruden was sacked after the 2008 season. Click here for more info
