Things are starting to work out quite nicely for the Miami Heat this season. It's not just that South Beach's Big Three are playing quite well during the postseason, but that luck seems to be on their side, clearing up the space for the next few rounds. First, the Boston Celtics are going to have to play game 2 of the series without their point-guard Rajon Rondo, who was suspended for one match for bumping an official. Secondly, strongest team in the Eastern Conference, the Chicago Bulls, lost their star, Derrick Rose, after winning the first game of their series against the Philadelphia 76ers. The issue here is that the incumbent league's MVP, Rondo tore the ACL in his left knee and is going to miss whatever is left of the postseason for the Bulls. So, even though Tim Thibodeau can make this team work without Rose, chances are that if they face the Heat down the stretch, Miami is going to be taking home another Eastern Conference Championship.
But that's not the end of things that have gone well for the Heat despite themselves. After the New York Knicks lost game two of the series against the Miami Heat, 104-94 on Monday night, Amare Stoudemire, the second best player in the Knicks lineup behind Carmelo Anthony, walked out of the court and into the locker room. But he didn't quite make it to the changing room. It seems that in a selfish and plain stupid burst of anger, Amare Stoudemire charged against the glass casing of a fire extinguisher in the hallway that connects the court to the visitor locker room of the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida. The fire extinguisher was fine, but Amare Stoudemire's hand and the New York Knicks chances of making it into the next round were seriously hurt. Team doctors and paramedics had to rush to treat the postgame cut. He was seen leaving the building with his left arm in a sling and plenty of white wrapping around his fist.
"I am so mad at myself right now," Stoudemire published in his Tweeter account after the game. "I want to apologize to the fans and my team, not proud of my actions, headed home for a new start." And he should feel mad and a bit embarrassed to say the least. Sure, he might be going home for a new start, but he's certainly going to miss game three in New York, and he's just making the Heat's job so much easier. Not that they needed it to be. Dwyane Wade scored 25 points to lead the Heat to its second win in the series. Chris Bosh added 21 points and LeBron James finished with 19 points, nine assists and seven rebounds. "Every game we try to find our shooters, get them comfortable in the offense and once they catch them, they can let it fly," James said. "It was concerted effort tonight to get them the ball and move the ball from one side to the other." And they got the ball rolling quite well.
Carmelo Anthony, Tyson Chandler and J.R. Smith are going to have to go into overdrive mode if they are hoping to win the next two games at the Madison Square Garden and force this into a best-of-three game series. Amare really messed them up, and sent overboard any chance of really making a stand against the Heat.
