Texas Rangers vs Boston Red Sox Free Picks: The two best hitting teams in the Majors square-off tonight when the Boston Red Sox and the Texas Rangers kick-off a four-game series at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. Game time is set for 8:05 p.m. (ET) and it will be broadcast nationally on the MLB Network.
Boston has only managed to win five of its last 10 games but it remains just a half a game in back of New York in the most heated division race in the Majors. The Red Sox are 77-49 overall; 38-24 at home and 39-25 on the road.
Two huge holes remain in Boston's lineup with David Ortiz listed as doubtful and Kevin Youkilis still on the DL with a sore back. None the less, the Red Sox continue to lead the Majors in hitting with a .278 team batting average and scoring with an average of 5.32 runs a game.
Erik Bedard is slated to get the start for the Red Sox in this one. He is winless in three starts since coming over from Seattle at the end of July. The left-hander is 4-8 with an ERA of 3.44 in 19 starts this season. Lifetime against the Rangers, Bedard is 4-3 with a 3.22 ERA.
Texas will try and snap a two-game losing streak after getting hammered 10-0 by the White Sox on Sunday as a 115 road favorite. Its lead over the Angels in the AL West is down to just four games as the back-to-back losses to Chicago dropped the Rangers to 73-55 on the year. They are 34-32 on the road and 39-23 at home.
Adrian Beltre remains on the DL with a strained hamstring, but like Boston, this Ranger lineup continues to hit the ball all over the park. It second in the Majors in both hitting and scoring with a .277 team batting average and an average of 5.09 runs per game.
Texas will also have a lefty on the mound tonight with C.J. Wilson getting the call. He is 12-5 on the year with a 3.20 ERA. His last time out, he held the Angels to two runs in seven innings to notch his 12th win of the season. Wilson is 3-1 against the Red Sox with an ERA of 1.69.
