Mike Napoli Joins the Red Sox
The Boston Red Sox has just recently decided to sign a contract to include catcher/first basement Mike Napoli in on the lineup. The contract is for 39 million dollars and is said to cover a three year period.
Mike is played for Texas this year and despite his very good performance at catcher the Red Sox expect to have him play at first base. In the event that the Red Sox decide to trade Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Mike Napoli will be able to take over as catcher making him an extra valuable player.
Mike himself told ESPN Dallas that he would much rather play catcher but is happy to be able to play the sport at all. "I just want to be in the lineup and play....But I like catching. I look at myself as catcher."
The Rangers did not meet the $13.3 million dollar qualifying offer for Napoli so the Red Sox will not have to forefit a draft pick to have him on the team.
In addition to being a valuable defensive player he will provide some power for the teams offense. He batted a .227 with 24 home runs and 56 RBIs last season and the season before that batted .320 with 30 homers and 75 RBI.
It is no doubt that Mike Napoli will make a valuable asset to the team and hopefully will make the Red Sox have a better season this year.
Brian Wilson Shows Interest in the Red Sox
On midnight on November 30th Brian Wilson became non-tendered by the San Fransico Giants meaning that in 2013 he can choose where he wants to play.
The newly made free agent is thinking of "living the dream" and actually playing for his favorite baseball team growing up, the Red Sox.
The only downside to Brian joining the Red Sox is that he is just coming off of Tommy John Surgery. Last season he was only able to pitch two games and then got shut down for the rest of the year. Although he is fully capable and ready to play this year there is still a lot of risk signing someone who just came off an injury.
Despite this Brian has been a phenominal pitcher in the past. Despite the risk of injury he could be a valuable player to the Red Sox. Hopefully Wilson will be able to live his childhood dream and play for the Red Sox.
